Spodnja Idrija, Slovenia, 9 September 2021 – Slovenian global corporation Hidria, which has been celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is co-creating the e-mobility of the future. In 2022, it will start building a new high-tech centre in Spodnja Idrija valued at EUR 40 million, for developing and manufacturing key parts of electric motors for hybrid and electric vehicles; the centre will open in mid-2023. The management of the corporation together with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Janez Janša laid the foundation stone of this project and thus announced the further successful development of this innovative company.
For 50 years now, the global Slovenian corporation Hidria has been successfully operating and developing in an increasingly dynamic global economic environment. Its breakthrough innovations are a significant contribution to the green mobility of the future. It is, among other, one of the key global development suppliers of stator and rotor packages for electric motors for hybrid and electric vehicles.
Based on its growing competence, Hidria already signed many long-term contracts with the largest global car manufacturers, and therefore needs new production facilities to produce key parts of electric motors. Next year, they will start building a high-tech digitalised centre in Spodnja Idrija for the development and production of stator and rotor packages for state-of-the-art e-vehicles of the future. In the second phase, it will also house a tool construction and manufacturing centre.
Covering an area of the size of almost two football fields (15,000 m2), it will include modern premises with automated and robotic digitally supported technology based on the Industry 4.0 principle. In it, Hidria will gradually open 100 jobs for highly qualified experts to exceed additional sales of EUR 100 million. The estimated value of this investment is EUR 40 million.
Production at the new site will start in mid-2023. This investment is the first of the projects aimed at establishing the green mobility innovation platform GREMO (GREen MObility) of the Slovenian automotive supplier industry in the context of ACS, the Automotive Cluster of Slovenia. With it, the most important automotive companies in Slovenia, in the planned partnership with the Slovenian government in the context of the Recovery and Resilience Pla), with over EUR 3 billion of investments in the next 5 years, are ensuring the transformation and further growth of the Slovenian automotive supplier industry which already represents over 10 percent of GDP and more than 20 percent of Slovenian exports.
