Power transformer for high voltage high frequency applications
T. Filchev, The University of Nottingham
In this paper several topologies of high voltage 150kV, high frequency(HF) 20kHz, 150kVA transformers is considered.
The application of the system is the industrial processing.
The main considerations when integrating the system are: the effect of parasitic elements (parasitic inductance and parasitic capacitances), small size and weight.
The HF transformer is the main critical block of the power electronics systems. The transformer to be design must have high electrical efficiency and has to be optimised.
These transformers have been investigated analytically and through software simulations. Design considerations and design procedure for HV, HF transformer have been presented. The basic constraints for the design of the high voltage HF transformer are: high voltage (HV) insulation requirements, soft magnetic materials, shapes, windings space, parasitic capacitances and parasitic inductance, cooling, windings and core losses.
The most suitable circuit has been chosen. The design procedure and results will be published in the full paper.
Topologies of transformers are presented. Design procedure for the high voltage, HF transformer is suggested. A model of the high voltage, high frequency transformer is developed.
